Meet Our Veterinarians
Who We Are
Owner & Mixed Animal Veterinarian
Dr. Weimer grew up on a diversified farm in central Indiana. Growing up on the farm allowed him to develop a passion for agriculture at a young age. He attended Purdue University and received his Bachelor's Degree in Animal Sciences in 2007 and his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. It's at Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine where he met his wife and co-owner of Heartland Vet Care. In 2012, he started Livestock Veterinary Services with the goal to help livestock producers optimize their production practices to ultimately become more efficient and profitable. In 2018, he collaborated with his wife Dr. Sarah and together they started Heartland Vet Care. In addition to veterinary work, Dr. Weimer also runs a commercial cow-calf operation, seed stock operation, and a beef feedlot facility. He currently lives in Knightstown, Indiana with their two kitties Daniel and Sandra and their daughters Charlotte and Gwendolynn.
Owner & Small Animal Veterinarian
Dr. Sarah is a Long Island, New York native. She spent her younger years working at the New York thoroughbred racetracks with her dad (an equine veterinarian), but moved to North Carolina to get her Bachelor's degree in Biology and Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. There she worked with all creatures great and small from sea turtles and zoo animals to dogs and cats. She then attended Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2012. After graduation she moved to Knightstown, Indiana with her husband. In 2018, Dr. Sarah and Dr. DJ started their practice together. When not at the clinic, Dr. Sarah enjoys reading, crocheting, traveling the world and exploring the local country roads with her husband and their beautiful daughters Charlotte and Gwendolynn. In 1987, Dr. Bennett formed his own practice as an equine veterinarian at Belmont Park, Aqueduct Race Track and Saratoga Race Course in New York. Dr. Bennett's dedication to equine medicine, from the diagnostic stage through the entire range of treatment, has earned him a well-deserved reputation for successfully treating some of the leading thoroughbred horses in the country. Dr. Bennett previously divided his time between Indiana Grand Racing & Casino and Heartland Vet Care, but started working for us full time in Spring 2022. He will be providing Heartland Vet Care with specialty equine care with 40 years of experience and we are very excited to have him join our team!
