How to make a Kitty Burrito to medicate your cat

Hi, my name is Kristin. And I'm Becky. And we're team members of Heartland Vet Care.  Today we are going to talk about how to make a kitty burrito!  This is a great technique to use when you need to orally medicate your feline friend or if you need to clean out the ears ot treat the eyes.  This method will prevent unwanted scratches and will help to keep them calm.  You will need a towel or a blanket long enough to wrap around your cat at least 2 times.  Lay your cat at the end of the towel and tuck the end underneath them, then wrap the other side over them snug and keep wrapping until the end is reached.  Now you have a safe and cozy feline who will be easier to medicate!

How to medicate your cat's eyes

Hi my name is Kristin.  And I'm Becky.  And we're team members of Heartland Vet Care.  Today we are going to talk about how to medicate a cat's eyes.  We've already demonstrated how to perform a kitty burrito and we encourage you to watch this video first to make this treatment easier on you.  Once your cat is in a kitty burrito, you are then going to take the ophthalmic medication in one hand (I'm a righty so I will use my right hand) and use your other hand to open the eyelids.  While holding the medication between your thumb and forefinger, you will apply the drop or ointment to the affected eye.  Please be sure to not touch the applicator tip to the eye itself as this can cause trauma to the eye and surrounding tissue.  It can also contaminate the bottle with unwanted bacteria from around the eye.  We hope this was helpful, thanks for watching!

How to clean and treat your cat's ears

Hi my name is Kristin.  And I'm Becky.  And we're team members of Heartland Vet Care.  Today we are going to talk about how to treat a cat's ears.  We've already demonstrated how to perform a kitty burrito and we encourage you to watch this video first to make this treatment easier on you.  Once your cat is in a kitty burrito, you are going to take the ear cleanser and pour it into the ear canal.  You can also pour the solution onto a cotton ball.  Expect your cat to immediately shake their head so be sure to keep your mouth closed and be prepared to close your eyes!  After you pour the solution into the ear, massage the base of the ear with the cleanser inside allowing it to flush deep into the ear canal.  Take a cotton ball, NO Q-TIPS, and clean out as far as your finger can go or as much as your pet will allow.  Please me careful, because this can be a painful procedure if the ear is very irritated.  You may need to purchase a muzzle to do this safely at home.  You may repeat this procedure as much as needed to be sure the ear is clear of all debris.  After the ear is clean and dry you may now apply the ear medication if prescribed to you by a veterinarian.  Please consult your veterinarian before applying any medication to the ears.  Put the desired amount into the affected ear as directed by your veterinarian.  We hope this was helpful to you!  Thanks for watching!
